Role: Lead Motion Designer / VFX & CGI Integration
Partners: Hamblin Imagery (creative, edit, sound design, final mix)
Brief
Deliver hero shots featuring Panasonic MultiShape with precise tracked CGI components integrated into live-action, consistent with the campaign look.
What I did
Supplied tracked CGI assets for on-set integration.
Troubleshot at speed on shoot day: removed light-box reflections, painted out tracking markers/lines, and cleaned the studio floor & stray set artifacts.
Re-aligned the device to talent performance for believable airflow/action sync.
Matched the graded plates by grading CGI elements and compositing them back into the shot.
Delivered a widescreen master plus 15+ variations highlighting different attachments.
Key responsibilities
Tracking & matchmove: robust solves for stable CGI placement.
Cleanup & paint: removed light-box reflections behind the subject; painted out tracking markers and a persistent line across shots.
Performance alignment: repositioned the device relative to the actor’s mouth for correct timing/sync when blowing on the shaver.
Roto & integration: edge mattes, defocus/aberration, and grain to sit the CGI naturally.
Look continuity: graded CGI to match the graded plates; balanced speculars and micro-contrast.
Versioning: authored one widescreen film and 15+ cut-downs to showcase the modular heads/uses.
